Analytical soil laboratory

In the analytical soil laboratory, we have a wide range of options for determining physical and chemical soil parameters. These analyses are crucial for the characterization of sites and provide valuable information for research and teaching.

Regular analyses carried out in the laboratory include

  • Grain size analysis using laser diffraction or settling columns
  • Determination of organic and inorganic carbon (TOC, TIC) in solids
  • Determination of dissolved organic and inorganic carbon (DOC, DIC)
  • Determination of nitrogen and carbon content in solids
  • Photometric analyses, incl. digestions for photometric analyses
  • Determination of aggregate stability
  • Digestions for isotope analyses
  • Extractions of plant-available nutrients (P, K, Ca, Mg)
  • Extractions for cation exchange capacity or other elements measured on the mass spectrometer in cooperation with the UGW laboratory
  • Gas chromatographic measurements
  • Further specialized analyses on request

In addition to laboratory analysis, we have a comprehensive stock of field equipment - from spades to Pürckhauer - which can be borrowed by students and staff.
