Mars Labor

Clupi

Mars Rover Replikat

In the MarsLabor at the University of Basel, we investigate how surface processes shape Martian landscapes and record environmental change. Using laboratory experiments, terrestrial analogues, and parabolic flight campaigns, the team studies sediment transport, soil formation, and erosion under Martian gravity conditions. The Marslabor also contributes to ESA’s ExoMars mission by testing and developing the use of the Close-Up Imager (CLUPI) for detailed rock texture and structure analysis, improving the interpretation of Martian surface materials. By linking process-based studies on Earth with planetary observations, the MarsLabor advances understanding of Mars’ dynamic surface and environmental evolution.
